My MillionDollarHomepage.com inspiration

On August 2005, Alex launched the Million Dollar Homepage

I must admit I was really surprised with its immediate success. However, I soon realised one thing: besides the classic crowd empowering the Internet confers, one of the biggest secrets of the MDHP was to keep it simple, very simple! Anyone was able to understand the concept the minute they entered the MDHP.

So, my imagination started wondering on how on the Internet space there was still a lot of room for similar concepts to flourish. Having a SEO background, my immediate thought was: How about words, the most common way of linking on the Internet?

So, on Oct-2005, I registered the domain MillionWordsHomePage.com expecting to develop something like the MillionDollarHomePage, but using words instead of pixels.

My personal live entered a very hard time back then so I ended up never developing it. I even had a very nice offer for the domain on SEDO which I refused.

Exactly one year later, Joel was very successful with the launch of 500Words.com. Congrats to him. The same idea, but unlike me, put to practice, and very well, I shall say. (500words.com was registered 21-jun-2006)

Another of my immediate ideas, back on 2005, was to sell time instead of space. And that’s how we end up here. I must admit I have been living a nightmare since I saw the 500words.com page, thinking that some day; somehow, another person would also start selling time.
